It's safe to say that I am podcast-obsessed. I've never been much of a TV or movie person, as I just don't enjoy sitting still for too long. Podcasts, however, let me do whatever I want while listening... and that, I LOVE! Any chance I get, I'm listening to something... on my (very short) drive to work, it's usually the Ten Minute Teacher Podcast or bits and pieces of Google Teacher Tribe. When I have a long drive or walk ahead of me, I really enjoy a podcast all about different infectious diseases and how they've affected our world called This Podcast Will Kill You (it's super interesting!). There are sooo many neat podcasts out there that appeal to so many diverse listener interests. I love the way that people out there are sharing things for FREE that they know about or are interested in in an entertaining new way. Anyone can find and share their voice through podcasting... ...which brings me right to my next point. We're beginning our own "podcasts" in Grade 5 and 6! We began by listening to a few different podcasts en français. An awesome French podcast for kids is called La puce à l'oreille - they share short episodes on a wide range of interesting topics (Viola Desmond, Mayan Civilization, Secret Life of Art, just to name a few). The problem with finding French podcasts for kids is that there just aren't thaaaat many, especially at a level of French understandable by our students in French immersion. When you can't find something out there, what do you do? You create it yourself. So, that's where we're at. We are making our own! Below, you can see the beginnings of a great discussion we had. We asked questions like...
Students below are taking a listen to a podcast of their choice, linked for them in THIS document shared via Google Classroom. I'll be sharing more in the coming weeks about the beginnings of our podcast-writing process.
In the meantime, you might enjoy checking out this list by Common Sense Media on the best podcasts for kids (these ones are in English). You might enjoy listening with your child! Comments are closed.
